General Information and Class Procedures
The Physical Education Department program is interested in developing each student totally through the mediums of physical activity, in mental concentration, for emotional well being, and in the personal-social aspect of getting along with others in the program. We will develop a better-fit student, establish fitness habits, and learn how to maintain our fitness level that we desire.
REQUIRED PARTICIPATION AND DRESS
Students at Northwest High school are required to participate in physical education. Students are additionally required to dress in shirt, shorts, socks, and tennis shoes. Shorts should not be cut off jeans and all clothing will have no advertising of alcohol, tobacco, etc. (school policy). Due to the spread of skin disease, the only skin above the waist that should be visible is the students head, neck and arms. Students should mark each part of their physical education uniform so that if it gets misplaced, it can be returned to the proper person.
Personal hygiene is important therefore, students are asked to shower following each day’s activities. Students will need to bring a towel and any other shower items s as needed in plastic containers (shampoo, soap, and cologne/perfume).
ACTIVITY RESTRICTION AND/OR MODIFICATION
Well enough to be in school --- Well enough to participate, with a few exceptions. A student’s activity may need to me modified or restricted, but this can only be done through a written note from their medical practitioner, (MD, Nurse Practitioner or Physicians’ Assistant). A parent or guardian may request that activity be restricted or modified for their child for a period of one day. If any injury requires that activity be restricted or modified for longer that one day, a medical practitioner’s note is required. When activity is restricted or modified we do ask that students dress for class so that they do not lose all of their daily uniform points. If in physical therapy a schedule must be returned with the student to be done daily in the classroom.
CLASS CONDUCT (Behavior, Equipment Use, and Gum/Candy)
All students are expected to follow the rules as set forth in the student/parent handbook as well as those presented here by the Physical Education Department. Students are expected to give proper care towards equipment and will be expected to pay for any damage they may cause through misuse. Gum, candy, and jewelry are should not be in physical education class. If worn during activities, jewelry often causes injury to the person wearing it or to someone else and Gum/candy can cause them to choke.
Conduct yourself properly in class and in the locker room. No horseplay or profane language will be tolerated.
